Winners of the 5th Annual “Power Pole-Free Day” Photo Contest Announced

Tokyo is promoting the elimination of utility poles with the goals of “strengthening urban disaster prevention functions,” “ensuring safe and comfortable pedestrian spaces,” and “creating a beautiful urban landscape.”
With the aim of allowing Tokyo residents to experience the benefits of removing utility poles, we held a photo contest from June 27 to October 1 to accept submissions on the themes of “sceneries that would be ‘better’ if there were no utility poles” and “sceneries that are ‘so much better’ now that utility poles are removed.” The winning entries will be announced and awarded on November 10th, “Utility Pole Removal Day” [Note 1], as detailed below.

The date is November 10, which represents the number 1 being likened to a row of electric poles, and the number being changed to 0.
