Symposium
Date:2026/01/14Application deadline:2026/01/05 Venue:Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1, 5th floor, Main Conference Hall

In order to ensure smooth urban reconstruction in the event of a major earthquake or other disaster in Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is providing opportunities for Tokyo residents to discuss together how to develop a post-disaster reconstruction city.
This time, the theme will be “Let’s think! What we can do now to prepare for recovery from large-scale disasters – 15 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and 10 years since the Kumamoto Earthquake,” and we will hear lectures from Professor Fumihiko Imamura, Vice President of Tohoku University, and Professor Masahiro Mamiya, Director of the Kumamoto Prefectural Government. In addition, we will hold a panel discussion with Professor Emeritus Kazuki Nakabayashi of Tokyo Metropolitan University on preparations for an earthquake directly beneath Tokyo, which could strike at any time.
Additionally, in order to strengthen disaster prevention functions, we are promoting the removal of utility poles in conjunction with residential development. As part of the residential development utility pole removal event, we will also be holding an awards ceremony for businesses that have made outstanding efforts, and presentations of proposals by elementary and junior high school students.
