Approval for establishment of Mita 5-chome West District Urban Redevelopment Association

Earthquake

This is to announce that, pursuant to Article 11, Paragraph 1 of the Urban Redevelopment Act, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has approved the establishment of the Mita 5-Chome West District Urban Redevelopment Association as detailed below.
This district aims to make efficient, sound and intensive use of the land and update urban functions, improve disaster prevention by eliminating the density of wooden buildings, form a safe and comfortable pedestrian network, and create a lush open space on the scale of a block park.

1 Project effectiveness

(1)Improving disaster prevention capabilities by eliminating the density of wooden buildings

By streamlining and consolidating the site, we will eliminate the concentration of wooden buildings and the mixture of industrial and residential functions, and at the same time develop urban infrastructure to improve disaster prevention capabilities

(2)Creating a safe and comfortable pedestrian network

As part of the redevelopment of intersections on metropolitan roads, we will shorten crosswalks and create safe walking spaces to ensure the safety and comfort of pedestrians. We will also develop sidewalks in conjunction with road widening on ward roads, and create sidewalk-like open spaces around the perimeter of sites to create a safe and comfortable pedestrian network.

(3)Creation of lush open spaces on a block-wide park scale

The children’s playground will be relocated, expanded, and redeveloped, and a plaza that can be used in conjunction with the playground will be created. A rooftop garden will be constructed on the lower floors (accessible from the children’s playground and plaza), creating a lush open space the size of a city block park.
