We support the installation of Air Solar systems in municipal evacuation shelters!
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has set a target of “approximately 1 GW installed within the metropolitan area by 2035” to promote the widespread adoption of “Air Solar” [Note], a Japanese-developed solar cell characterized by being “thin, light, and flexible.”
Starting in fiscal year Reiwa 8, the government will begin providing new subsidies to wards, cities, towns, and villages for the installation of “Air Solar” systems at evacuation facilities.
[Note] Air Solar is a solar cell that utilizes a crystal structure known as perovskite.
Compared to silicon-based solar cells, it has the following characteristics and is expected to be highly competitive with silicon-based solar cells.
- 1) Because it is “thin, light, and flexible,” it can be installed in a wider range of locations.
- 2) The development of manufacturing technologies could lead to mass production and lower manufacturing costs.
- 3) Not only is this technology Japanese in origin, but approximately 30 percent of the world’s total production of iodine—the main raw material—is produced in Japan.
