Tokyo Metropolitan Government is promoting the elimination of utility poles in every opportunity for urban development, including private development, with the aim of realizing a safe and secure city.

In residential land development, in order to avoid the creation of new utility poles, a subsidy system for project costs was launched in fiscal year 2020, and from this fiscal year, we have been working on initiatives such as setting up a consultation desk to provide know-how on elimination of utility poles. We are now announcing that we have established a certification system for businesses with the aim of increasing the number of businesses working on elimination of utility poles and promoting it widely, and that we are now accepting applications for certification.

1. System Overview

Tokyo Metropolitan Government will certify businesses that promote the elimination of utility poles in residential land development, introduce the certified businesses on its website, and raise awareness by publicizing each initiative.

In addition, as proof that businesses support the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s initiatives and have promoted the elimination of utility poles in residential land development, they will be given a certification logo mark (with a registration number) with a motif of a pole-free streetscape. The certification logo mark can be used on business cards, etc., to improve the company’s image.

2. Certification requirements

In residential land development that has been approved under Article 29 of the City Planning Act, businesses that promote the removal of utility poles must meet all of the following requirements.

(1) Those who have been confirmed to have installed utility poles within Tokyo

(2) Those who have agreed to the certification regulations

Please apply via the Urban Development Bureau website.

4. Application period

From Friday, December 13, 2024 to Friday, February 28, 2025

*Businesses are scheduled to be certified in March 2025
