Waterways That Connect, Smiles That Spread: Tokyo’s Rivers
July is River Conservation Month [Note]. To help residents develop a sense of familiarity and affection for Tokyo’s rivers, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is hosting a variety of events related to river conservation. We hope you’ll join us. (Free admission)
[Note] Reference: River Conservation Month
With the aim of promoting the conservation and restoration of healthy river environments and fostering public awareness of river conservation, July has been designated as River Conservation Month. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and local governments across the country organize various events during this month.
We will be holding a “facility tour” in July 2026. Staff members will be on site to explain the roles and operations of each facility. Another facility tour is scheduled for November at a different location. Details will be announced separately.

Tour of the Underground Retention Basin That Protects the City from Heavy Rain (Ebara Retention Basin), Nishi-Gotanda, Shinagawa Ward

Number of openings
25 people per session; 50 people total.
We will tour the flood control retention basin located on the site of the former Ebara Market, which is approximately 59 to 75 meters wide , 30.5 meters deep, and 126 meters long.
(Note) The tour route includes stairs (equivalent to three stories).

- There will be some stairs to climb. Please wear comfortable clothing and non-slip shoes.

- Please note that events may be canceled or subject to changes due to weather conditions.
