Call for Artwork and Essays on Landslide Prevention and Exhibition of Submitted Works
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and prefectural governments have designated June as “Landslide Prevention Month” each year to deepen public understanding and awareness regarding the prevention of landslides and the mitigation of damage.
In October 2025, as Typhoons No. 22 and No. 23 approached, heavy rains caused landslides on Hachijojima, damaging numerous homes and facilities.As part of its public awareness activities for this month, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is inviting elementary and junior high school students—the future generation—to submit drawings and essays on landslide prevention, as detailed below.
Additionally, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will hold an exhibition of works created for Landslide Prevention Month at two locations within the city.
1. Call for Artwork and Essays on Landslide Prevention
(1) Eligibility
Elementary and middle school students living or attending school in Tokyo
(2) Application Period
From Monday, June 1, 2026, to Tuesday, September 15, 2026 (postmark valid)
(3) Theme and Submission Guidelines
Subject: Matters related to landslides and measures to prevent them (For details, including how to apply, please refer to the attached table (PDF: 629 KB))
(4) Awards
Outstanding entries in the painting and essay categories will be selected to receive the Director of the Construction Bureau Award and the Director of the River Management Department Award, respectively, along with a certificate of commendation and a commemorative gift. The results are scheduled to be announced through the schools around the end of October.
(5) Handling of Personal Information, etc.
We will not use applicants’ personal information for any purpose other than verifying entries, notifying applicants of the results, and announcing the results. However, when exhibiting or publishing the entries, we will include the title of the work, the applicant’s name, school name, and grade level.
(6) Other
- Winners of the Director-General of the Construction Bureau Award will be recommended for the central review conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
- As a general rule, submitted entries will not be returned.
- The rights to use this work and the copyright belong to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

2. Landslide Prevention Month Art Exhibition
An exhibition introducing the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s initiatives for preventing landslides and showcasing the winning entries from the FY2025 Landslide Prevention Art and Essay Contest will be held at the venue listed below.
