Announcement of the start of the Air Solar Social Implementation Promotion Project

In Tokyo, we are promoting initiatives to realize a decarbonized society and ensure a stable energy supply, using the HTT (H: Reduce, T: Generate, T: Store) principles for electricity. We would like to inform you that we will provide support to development companies for the practical application of “Air Solar [Note]“, a Japanese-made solar cell characterized by being “thin, light, and flexible”.
[Note] About air solar
This is a solar cell that uses a crystal structure called perovskite.
Compared to silicon-based solar cells, they possess the following characteristics and are expected to be highly competitive against silicon-based solar cells.
- 1)Because it is “thin, light, and flexible,” the range of places where it can be installed is wide.
- 2)Development of manufacturing technology has the potential to enable mass production and reduce manufacturing costs.
- 3)In addition to being a technology originating in Japan, approximately 30% of the world’s iodine production comes from Japan.
Business overview
To accelerate the practical application of air solar technology, we will subsidize a portion of the costs of demonstration projects conducted by development companies, thereby promoting its social implementation.
Requirements for projects eligible for subsidies
- Based on the regional characteristics of Tokyo, this project aims to identify challenges and verify the effectiveness of promoting the widespread adoption of air solar power within the city.
- Projects that continue to utilize the results of the grant-funded project within Tokyo and have plans to work toward early social implementation within Tokyo, etc.
Grant amount
Two-thirds of the expenses required for the demonstration project (survey and design costs, equipment costs, construction costs, etc.) (maximum amount: 40 million yen)
Application period
April 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027 (Ends when the total amount of applications reaches the upper limit)
Budget amount
120 million yen
